Meet the team

Alex Tillema, Sr. EE
Alex Tillema is a Senior in Electrical Engineering. He is the team leader for Hydropower Vision.  He decided on an EE major because he describes himself as a technology-focused person with a focus in power.  He is most proud of an LED chess set that he created for EE 186, and has also had internships at Burns & McDonnell and Musco Sports Lighting over the past two summers.  Alex is involved in various clubs and likes that Coover Hall is full of students from different backgrounds but pursuing similar interests.

Nicholas Jones, Sr. EE
Nick Jones is the communication leader for the Hydropower Vision team. Nick has had a great deal of experience with the power industry through previous co-ops and internships at the Omaha Public Power District and Exelon Nuclear.  With a focus in power system, Nick is eager to demonstrate the benefits that hydropower growth will have. When Nick is not in the classroom or working, it is not uncommon to find him on a run as he is an avid runner. Other interests of Nick includes traveling, skiing, and surfing.

Jared Ward, Sr. EE

Jared Ward is a Senior Electrical Engineering major at Iowa State University with a focus in power systems. He is the key concept holder for Hydropower Vision.

Josh Martinson, Sr. EE
Josh Martinson is a Senior in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University. He is the webmaster and secondary key concept holder for Hydropower Vision. He heads a small lab and work-group which focuses on inventing new problem solving devices and innovating current technologies for efficiency and affordability.

My name is Mohammed Aldhaheri. I am the lead researcher for Hydropower Vision. I am a senior student at Iowa State University majoring in Electrical Engineering. My focus is in Power Systems and Semiconductor Devices.

Dr. James D. McCalley
James D. McCalley is our faculty adviser for Hydropower Vision. His research interests are related to electric power systems engineering, including transmission planning, power system security, power system dynamics, wind energy, and long-term investment planning for energy and transportation systems at the national level.
